Icethrone Interview

1.Can you give us an update on what is going on with the band these days?

(Algiz, Vocals): Hello! Yes, we are currently working on new material. So far we have 4 new songs ready and we alredy recorded the single "Dreams of Death" that will be released shortly.

2.So far you have released 2 albums, how would you describe the musical on both albums and also how do they differ from each other?

(Algiz, Vocals): The genre we follow mainly is the swedish death metal, but the main difference between the first and the second album is that in "Beggar's Song" there weren't the synths so the second one "See You in Valhall", and it is still like that, is more melodic and epic than the first one. Also there has been a major line-up change, and we always try and fuse all the genres we prefer to compose something unique and entirely ours, so this is why they are so different from each other.

3.You lyrics cover Norse Paganism, can you tell us a little bit more about your interest in this topic?

(Algiz, Vocals): I have always been interesed in all kinds of mythologies, but here in italy we tend to focus on the roman and greek ones so this is where the norse mythology has fascinated me so much. it is so different than those two and i started to focus on it to know more about the norse gods and goddeses and their way of thinking and their relationship with men.

4.Most band with Pagan lyrics usually play black or folk metal, but you have a sound closer to death metal, do you fell you stand out with your musical approach?

(Algiz, Vocals): Actually we are followed mainly by people who listen to black metal, the audience doesn't seem to notice the fact that we are closer to death than black metal.

5.What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name 'Icethrone'?

(Algiz, Vocals): There is really not much inspiration behind the name, we just wanted not to be so predictable but we also wanted a name that gave the idea of what we wanted to express with our music and lyrics.

6.What are some of the best shows that the band has played over the years and also how would you describe your stage performance?

(Algiz, Vocals): The most important show for us was in January 2013 in our city, Genoa, we were supporting a black metal band 'Kurgaal' beacuse after that show we became a bit more known and also a great friendship began with the great Lord Astaroth. During our shows we try to be as professional as possible never forgetting to have fun and entertain those who come to our gigs.

7.Do you have any touring or show plans for the future?

(Algiz, Vocals): We don't have anything planned for now because we want to focus on the recording of our new material. Of course we are ready and willing to play both in and outside italy.

8.Both of the albums came out on Blacktears of Death, can you tell us a little bit more about this label?

(Algiz, Vocals): It was a very important label in the 90s, especially in the black metal underground field so it was a warranty of professionality.

9.On a worldwide level how has the feedback been to your music by fans of death, pagan and viking metal?

(Algiz, Vocals): We received a good feedback both in North and South America and Australia, but unfortunately we didn't have the chance to go there.

10.What is going on with the other musical projects these days that some of the band members are involved with?

(Algiz, Vocals): Every one of us has at least another band active at the moment: I, Algiz, sing also for the black metal band 'Thy Winter Kingdom' Metheus and Vlaad play together in the black metal band 'Mystical Crisis' Metheus plays and sings in the thrash metal band 'Perceverance' Loke plays in the brutal metal band 'Soman' Herian plays in the ambient black metal band 'Blaze of Sorrow' Hugin plays in the power metal band 'Illunia'

11.When can we expect another full length album and where do you see the band heading into musically during the future?

(Algiz, Vocals): As already said we are working on it with more epic influences and new themes to explore and lyrics in our native language

12.What are some bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?

(Algiz, Vocals): Every one of us listens to different genres but we all listen to Amon Amarth, which is the band I am most influenced from.

13.What are some of your non musical interests?

(Algiz, Vocals): I am interested in sports, especially rugby, comics and videogames. Metheus, for example, is also interested in sports and he is a jiu jistu brown belt, he also writes for different journals and is very active in social matters. Vlaad is involved in a historical reenactment group and practices swordplay. Loke is interested in videogames and technology Hugin and Herian's interest is mainly music

14.Before we wrap up this interview do you have any final words or thoughts?
