Omnium Gatherum are a band from Finland that plays a very melodic form of death metal and this is a review of their 2008 album "The Redshift" which will be re-issued by Candlelight Records during the year of 2014.
The album starts out with a heavy and melodic sound along with solos and leads and you can also hear synths in the background before bringing in death metal vocals as well as a mixture of slow and fast parts which also leads up to clean singing being brought in along with all of the musical instruments having a very powerful sound to them.
As the album continues clean sections are added in with the heavier parts at times as well as going for the more modern variation of melodic death metal and you can hear some more traditional melodic metal influences and prog elements being brought into the music at times and on one song they bring in a slight industrial feeling.
When the album goes pass a few songs they bring in a power ballad that is a bit more heavier than the mainstream approach while still having a good amount of melody and emotion as well as an acoustic guitar instrumental while also still having a god amount of heavy songs and for the bonus tracks they bring a live songs, 2 demo songs and a remix.
While there is not much on this recording that is original Omnium Gatherum still show they are very good at playing a modern variation of melodic death metal and the synths and prog elements also show they can be very diverse at times and this is a good album for this still of music.
Song lyrics cover personal subjects, while the production has a very strong, powerful, heavy and professional sound where you can hear all of the musical instruments that are present on this recording.
In my opinion Omnium Gatherum are a very decent sounding atmospheric, melodic death metal b and and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out t his album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Nail" "No Breaking Point" "Greeneyes" adn "long Distance Highway". 7/5 out of 10.
