Purify The Horror Interview

1.Can you tell us a little bit about the band for those that have never heard of you before?

We are a grind band based in Birmingham,UK.

2.How would you describe your musical sound?

I think ‘Ordered chaos’ describes our sound quite well. If I had to sum it up in another way then I would say that it is a mix between a car wreck, a comedy show and a schizophrenic transvestite’s tea party. We really just go for it as hard as we can and try to capture that energy which (to us) represents the true spirit of grindcore.

3. What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects the band explores with the music?

Lyrically we delve everywhere and the EP is testament to this. One song deals with Sergeant Squeal’s fight at a Christmas party in 2009, another references the anarchist reprieve to capitalism and the list goes on. We really don’t give a fuck what people ‘Expect’ in terms of lyrical content …….. But I would say that as a general ‘Rule’ we tend to avoid gore, rape and all that shit.

4.What is the meaning and inspiration behind the bands name?

It relates to our desire to incite the grind revolution and bring back some purity to the scene by striving for that nasty edge which the music once had. In this age, it feels like every little cunt and his dog has a “Grind” band. When really, all they are doing is sitting in their bedroom – programming some shit drums – releasing it on Facebook and dragging the genre through the dirt.

5. Has the band done any live shows or is this a studio project?

There have been no live shows as of yet but this definitely isn’t a studio project and you can 100% guarantee we will be taking to the stage when the time is right.
6.According to the facebook page the band is signed to Socialpathic Sound Recordings and Dissected Records, can you tell us a little bit more about those labels?

Well, Dissected Records is a DIY label in Birmingham,UK. It is the banner under which a number of extreme metal acts in the area have been associated with and it seemed natural to release the EP with them. Sociopathic Sound Recordings is a US label / distro. Their team have been amazingly supportive of us since our song was premiered online in early June 2013 and we think that releasing the EP with both labels strengthens our position and increases our overall reach.

7.On a worldwide level how has the feedback been to your music by fans of grindcore?

It is definitely a double edged sword. There is a real split in the scene between those who want this nostalgic stripped down grind (synonymous with Napalm Death / early Carcass etc) and the others who are into the modern bands with clean production.

But the majority of people into grind seem to support us and we can’t see anything but good things coming in the future ………

8. What is going on with the other musical projects these days?

Some are doing better than others.

9. What direction do you see your music heading into on future releases?

We are going to be incorporating more punk and properly utilizing the dual vocal attack. No material has been recorded yet due to time constraints and other obligations but work on the next release is set to start in the coming weeks.

It will be funnier, faster and even more fucked up than the EP.

10. What are some bands or musical styles that have influenced your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?

In terms of grind – it would have to be Pig Destroyer / Napalm Death / Carcass / Brutal Truth / Regurgitate. I don’t think any of us have a set genre which we only listen to as we wouldn’t limit our tastes in such a stupid way but when we come together and write for Purify The Horror there is definitely a sound / feeling we are going for.

11.Outside of music what are some of your interests?

We really don’t have any interests outside of music.

12.Any final words or thoughts before we wrap up this interview?

Our debut EP is 100% free and will be made available on Bandcamp / torrent sites and various blogspots.

Enjoy it. If not, then fuck off.
