Execration Interview

1. Can you give us an update on what is going on with the band these days? Kevin:
Execration has been progressing into a new form of our sound after parting ways with co-founder Colin Foran. I am the only original member left, and I know this is the tightest lineup we've ever had. That being said
though, this has been our lineup since 2009 (minus Colin and adding Brian recently). Execration is a big family basically and we have gone through a ton of shit to get to this point; Label changes, member losses,
destructive forest fires, etc. With the completion of " The Acceptance of Zero Existence", we our aiming to keep very active with our current writing and live performance momentum.

2. How would you describe the musical sound of the new album and how it differs from previous recordings? Kevin:
"Acceptance" is more experimental, more technical, and darker than "Feast". "Feast" kicked ass and was fucking angry, but for me some of it fits too much in the scene with some of the other brutal death bands. We still
have the straightforward aggression and brutality, but we are taking the music and lyrics in a more serious direction for ourselves. I feel like this is the evolution of Execration.

3. What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects the band explores with the music? Wyatt:
We are exploring the roots of our personal Execration magic practices and death worship with some of the songs. We have specific songs communicating to Hecate (commonly associated with the crossroads and also
goddess of magic, witchcraft, and the night) and a few other beings. There is a lot of self liberation, illumination of the darker side of human nature, realization of mortality/immortality, etc. There will be different
personal meanings to those who read the lyrics and absorb them.

4. What is the meaning and inspiration behind the bands name? Kevin:
Well simply put Execration means an act of Hatred, or also casting a spell or curse. This is a lot of what is inspiring to us in life, letting the hate out in different forms.
“Why should I not hate mine enemies―if I "love" them does that not place me at their mercy?”
― Anton LaVey, The Satanic Bible

5. Out of all of the shows the band has played so far which one did you enjoy the best? Kevin:
In the earlier days with the original lineup- CIM 2008
In the middle of lineup changing- Be Kind and Regrind at the end of 2009 I think
Current lineup- Apocalypse Fest in July 2012 Las Vegas Death Fest 2012 and I anticipate a hell of a show at Building Temples From Death on September 29 2012

6. Do you have any touring plans for the new release? Kevin and Wyatt:
We are playing at Building Temples From Death on September 29th in a couple weeks. Other than that we are planning on being very active with shows. There will be touring in 2013, we are currently looking for a good
tour to be a part of. If all goes well we also would like to go to Europe and beyond to spread the seed of Execration!!!

7. On a worldwide level how has the feedback been to your music by fans of brutal death metal? Kevin
It's always been great. I know we have fans across the globe that we've chatted with throughout the past few years, and a lot in places I didn't know were allowed to listen to American death metal. We've also developed a
great following in North and South America and Europe as well.

8. What direction do you see your music heading into on future releases? Kevin and Wyatt:
This album is the starting point of our direction we want to stay in. Intense, Dark, Technical, and Brutal. We will keep expanding the devourous intent that we have now.

9. What are some bands or musical styles that have influenced your music and also what are you listening to nowadays? All
(Older) Morbid Angel, Nile, Behemoth, Belphegor, Suffocation, Immolation, Gorguts, Origin, Portal, Hate Eternal, Death, Dying Fetus, Krisiun, Sarcolytic, Absu, Mayhem, fuck we could keep going but this can give
you an idea……

10. How would you describe your views on Satanism and Occultism? Wyatt:
We have left-hand views, and collectively everyone in the band brings a mixture of "darker" religious views/mythology. We all have a fascination with the life/death cycle. This being said, we do believe in a balance as
well. We use our music combined with Execration magic practice to explore our darker nature. We are aware of the war above, and we use our music as a weapon.

11. Outside of music what are some of your interests? All
Nature, survival, various mountain activities, craft ales, whiskey, marijuana, occasional hallucinogens, communicating with the other side. We all have a respect for our time on this plain, and enjoy all of the eating,
drinking, fucking, and various other ways to indulge in our human nature.

12. Any final words or thoughts before we wrap up this interview? All
We look forward to giving everyone a good kick in the ass with the new album, "Acceptance of Zero Existence"! Support your metal scene by buying the music and going to shows, that's what keeps the metal scene
alive!!
