In Flames/The Jester Reace/Nuclear Blast Records/1997 CD Review

In Flames are a band from Sweden that has been around since the early 90's that are somewhat mainstream these days and this is a review of their classic 1997 album "The Jester Race" which was released by Nuclear Blast Records during the year of 1997.

Drums range from slow to midpaced beats with some ocassional blast beats while the bass playing has a very powerful sound and you can actually hear it on this album, as for the keyboards when they are utilized they have more of a sound effect feel to them with a psychedelic edge.

Rhythm guitars cover alot of variety with a bunch of influences from death, thrash and traditional metal with a mixture of midpaced to fast riffs that contain alot of melody while the guitar leads are very technical, catchy and melodic with alo of German power/speed metal influences.

Vocals are kind of in between high pitched screams to some lower death metal growls with some spoked word parts, while the lyrics cover some depressing poetic type themes with a touch of the esoteric as well as utopian side, as for the production on this album which was recorded and mixed in Studio Fredman during November of 1995 sounds very professional and you can hear hear all of the instruments.

In my opinion this was a great album from In Flames and it sounded alot better as well as heavier than their newer material which has a more mainstream sound to it. STANDOUT TRACKS INCLUDE "Moonsheild"Graveland" and "The Jester Race". RECOMMENDED BUY
