1. Can you tell us a little bit about the band for those that have never heard of you before?
Sim: Well we are a brand new technical progressive death metal band that recently released our first album called "The Aura". I started the band in 2005 and it's in January 2010 that the line-up was finally complete with Kevin Chartré on 7 string guitar, Dominic "Forest" Lapointe on 6 string Fretless bass, Guyot Bégin Benoit on drums and me, Simon Girard on vocals and 8 string guitar.
2. How would you describe the musical sound of the new album?
Forest: Hi! Our influences come as much from Quebec bands as from outside the province, and we try to push our limits as much as possible while retaining a natural sound. Simon composes and we arrange the songs together using everyone's influences, and we try not to repeat ourselves so that each song is distinct. Each member also contributes solos such as on the song ''Omnipresent Perception''.
Guyot: We are very concerned with making our sound as natural and organic as possible. For drums we used exclusively the sound of my actual drums for the album, and used no samples or triggering. We worked hard to achieve overall clarity on the album. Everybody worked on the arrangements to get the best out of each part of each song. I think it made for a lot of diversity, because each member has a very different musical background.
3. What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects the new releases explores?
4. What is the meaning and inspiration behind the bands name?
Sim: We all tried to think about something that related to the spiritual feeling of the band and the lyrical themes are are covered. So ''Beyond Creation'' was a good way for us to express our way of seeing this project.5. What are some of the best shows that the band has played so far and how would you describe your stage performance?
Sim: Personally, I really loved our album release show at Foufounes Éléctriques in Montreal on June 10th 2011. We played our entire album and the crowd was very intense! It was a real nice experience! Forest: Yeah, the album launch, as well as April 9th 2011 in St-Hyacinthe; we played with many of our friend-bands and the place was packed and there was a crazy vibe. We have a great fan base here and we hope that the trend will expand to other places in the years or months to come!
Guyot: The show Forest is talking about was at Bar Le Trash with Unhuman and Brought By Pain. It was a small venue but one of the most intense crowds we ever had. And as Simon said, the Foufounes Électriques show was a really nice experience and was the best crowd we could ever ask for!
6. Do you have any touring plans for the future?
7. Currently you are unsigned, are you looking for a label and if so what kind of label do you think that would be a perfect fit for your music? Forest: We'd love to work with a major label of course, and without naming any names, one with bands that have elements in common with us!
8. Are there any side projects besides this band or is this a full time line up?
Guyot: On my end, I'm currently studying jazz. Maybe one day I'll start a jazz project but for the moment, I put my energy in my studies and Beyond Creation!
9. On a worldwide level how has your music been received by extreme metal fans?\ Forest: The reviews have been really good, the album hasn't been destroyed yet, haha! We get the most comments from fellow musicians, and these always make us want to play more and persevere; it's really gratifying to hear from those fans.
Sim: Many people from all over the world have been giving us some real good comments about the album and we're happy to know that fans are spreading the word about us! It's very appreciated!!
10. What direction do you see the music heading into on future releases?
Forest: An even more progressive approach I'd imagine, with even crazier ideas, while maintaining a soul and a well thought-out structure!
Guyot: Some sweet jazzy stuff, prog/fusion and more technical tricks. But we always keep in mind musicality, soul and feel in our music.
11. What are some bands or musical styles that have influenced your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?
Forest: All music that has a certain evolution to it. We keep up to date in what's being released within metal, and we all go digging around in the past for old prog, jazz, and classical stuff.
Guyot: I like a lot of different styles of music but I have a particular appreciation for jazz and prog music. Some of my favourite bands are: Dave Brubeck Quartet, Planet X, Cynic, Death, John Coltrane, The Number Twelve Looks Like You, Augury, Bach, Mozart, Satie, Jojo Mayer and many more.
12. outside of music, what are some of your interests?
Guyot: Learning about everything I can! Studying music, reading, cycling, and for sure food!
