Ghouls Interview

1. Can you give us a brief history of the band?

1)Ghouls are formed in november 1995 by me(Max) ,releasing a demo called "Ghouls";before producing our album "Until It Bleeds" Ghouls have released a demo and 2 promos.After several changes of line-up,leading to brief periods of inactivity,now we we have a solid line-up:me(vocals),Antonio(guitarist,who is in Ghouls since 1997),Stefano(my brother and bass-guitarist),Claudio(drummer).

2. How would you describe your sound to someone who has never heard you before?

2)Well,our sound is pure death metal,tyring to have a sound both clear and aggressive,not to have a too distorted one.Death metal with no compromise!

3. What is the meaning behind the band's name?

3)Ghouls stands for a kind of demons,taken from the Arabian culture;they usually eat angels' corpses,and live near cemetaries.I thought that was a really cool name for the band!!that's it.

4. What is your opinion of modern death metal and grindcore?

4)Modern death metal scene has a lot of great bands ,such as Necrophagist,Spawn of possession,Decapitated and many ohters that make death metal be a very innovative genre,together with the cult bands,as well as grind core scene,even if i have to say we don't listen very much to this last one.

5. What are some of the best live shows that you have played so far?

5)among various good bands we have shared the stage with,I remember of course that concert with Behemoth,in southern Italy on 2003:it was great!!

6. What releases have you put out so far?

6)"Until It Bleeds" is our debut album,but before we have released some demos and promos("Ghouls" in 1996;"Rebaptized In Blasphemy" in 1998;"Promo 2000" and "Promo 2003").As you can see our debut album has been released some years late,but as I told you before,we had some line-up problems that caused a delay for the release of the album."UIB" completely satisfies us,it has a direct sound but at the same time extremely clear.each memeber of the group have totally been involved in the arrangements.we are proud of it!!

7. How would you describe your musical progress over the years?

7)at the beginning our tracks were more aggressive and less technical,then we oriented to more technical arrangements and riffs.Now our music it is an equal mixture of these elements.that's our musical style of composing tracks so far.

8. What direction do you see the band heading into during the future?

8)now we are trying to promote our album,searching for various contacts to organise dates and stuff like that;we are also working on writing new good tracks for the future.

9. Are there any touring plans?

9)we are taking contacts with some bands that want us to go to some cities and various places to play our music.at the moment we can't add more things,'cause we are trying to define these projects.

10. What are your main influences music wise or non music wise?

10)our musical influence comes from what each member of the band listens to,that goes from the classical music to the most furious death metal;instead our non musical influence comes from our way of life and about the lyrical side I write all the lyrics,all dealing with the darkness of humanity,such as perversion,tortures,eroticism,sufference and anti-religious themes.

11. What are you listening to nowadays and what are some good bands or releaeses that you would recommend?

11)nowadays we are listening to different styles of music,as i said before.I would suggest Suffocation,Morbid Angel,Bach just to talk about some stuff I listen to.

12. Does Satanism or Anti Christianity play a role in your music or life?

12)I would prefer talkin about anti-christianity more than satanism,total anti-religiousness.I like thinkin on the concept of the freedom of the human beings,both physical and mental.I like the idea of the man as a God on his own,even though this is the central concept of satanism.no-religion means life,free life!

13. What are some good films or books that you would recommend

?13)I'd suggest "Quills" that talks about the life of Marquise De Sade,"The Butterlfy Effect" and "Memento" dealing with the theme of memory and its powers,"Manson Family","Romanzo Criminale" that talks about of '80 Roman criminal traffic,and "Christiane F.".These are some of my favourite movies.with regard to books i like very much "Justine","Juliette" and "Les 120 Journ�es De Sodome" all written by De Sade,then "Faust" of Goethe,"Angel and demons"(D.Brown),"A History Of Torture"(G.R.Scott) and many comics such as "Dylan Dog","Dago","Diabolik","Dampyr"...Do you know these last ones?

14. How would you describe the death metal/grind scene in Italy?

14)In Italy the scene has a lot of good bands,but in order not to forget some bands,i'd prefer not to talk about their names.well I'd suggest a band i like very much...they are called "Ghouls" ahahahahaha!!!

15. Any final words?

15)enjoy the pleasures of the flesh and soul,live every day as if it were the last of your life(it could be!!!!),you won't have no other God except yourself.That's all!!!
